People who identify with races and cultures other than their own


There are many cases of people who identify with cultures they don't have any "biological" connection to. "Iron Eyes" Cody, the Italian-American actor who portrayed Native Americans all his life (and insisted he was one) is an example that immediately springs to mind. More recently, there's the puzzling story of Rachel Dolezal. Dolezal was a NAACP leader whose white parents say she misrepresented her identity by masquerading as a black woman. Dolezal told the “Today” show that, despite the criticisms, she identifies as black. She ended up writing a book about it. You have to wonder where stuff like this comes from.
